NEW!!

Visit our "Double Trouble" page, a tribute to the folks who have adopted not one but TWO TDBCR dogs!

Sunlight streams through window pane unto a spot on the floor.... then I remember, it's where you used to lie, but now you are no more.

Our feet walk down a hall of carpet, and muted echoes sound.... then I remember, It's where your paws would joyously abound.

A voice is heard along the road, and up beyond the hill, then I remember it can't be yours.... your golden voice is still.

But I'll take that vacant spot of floor and empty muted hall and lay them with the absent voice and unused dish along the wall.

I'll wrap these treasured memorials in a blanket of my love and keep them for my best friend until we meet above.

NOVEMBER 18 2003

TDBCR extends its condolences to Tim and Ashlie, who lost their beloved Riley to cancer last night.

Riley's last year of life was full of fun and affection and love, thanks to his adopters, and he might never have known happiness without them.

Thank you for giving Riley a home, Tim and Ashlie, and know that he was loved and will be missed by us all. Rest in Peace, Riley.

DECEMBER 1 2003

TDBCR would like to congratulate and thank Tim and Ashlie for opening their hearts to rescue dog Jackson. Although Riley will always remain in their hearts, Jackson has found a place in there as well. Jackson could not have found a more wonderful home. Thank you both!

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

OCTOBER 8 2003

TDBCR extends its condolences to Dorothy, who lost her beloved adopted Jack to a fatal illness last week.

You and Jack remain in our hearts, Dorothy, and thank you for giving him a wonderful life until his passing. He will be deeply missed.

OCTOBER 22 2003

TDBCR would like to extend our warmest wishes and thanks to Dorothy who, in memory of her dear departed Jack, has opened her home and heart to rescue dog Danny! Congratulations to you both; we wish you a long and happy life together.

I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silent thoughts with me...
She'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more her favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called her to His golden throne.
Although my eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join her there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For she will greet me with her bark.

OCTOBER 6 2004

Catie Belle passed away during surgery before she ever found her forever home. Cate was found wandering a rural road with her two puppies in tow and was scheduled for euthanasia in a shelter when TDBCR brought her home and gave her 6 wonderful weeks of love and attention before she passed. We will miss our Catie until the end of our days. Cate was a great dog.

AUGUST 27 2005

I have done mostly what men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can't forget, if I wanted to,
Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through--
Wherever my road inclined--
Four-Feet said, 'I am coming with you!'
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round--
Which I shall never find--
Some where that does not carry the sound
Of Four-Feet trotting behind.

--- Rudyard Kipling ---

Tragically, Tanner passed away after getting his head stuck in a bag left in someone's yard when he was visiting friends. Sweet Tanner will be missed by all who knew him, a gentle, loving dog with a big heart. We are sorry Suzanne, for your loss.

"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."

--- Ben Hur Lampman ---

IN FEBRUARY 2006 at the age of over 16 years, sweet Muffin passed away from kidney failure. Abandoned at a vet clinic at 13.5 years of age. Muffin knew love and peace in her final home until her passing. Bless you Linda and Terry for taking in a old dog.

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.

Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.

We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

Irving Townsend.

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I give the news of Nola's passing. Complications from her heart condition are responsible. She went peacefully in Jen's arms outside on the lawn on her own terms. After an extremely difficult 24 hours, she found her place and time to go. She could not have penetrated further into our hearts in the 2.5 years that we had her. She was the kindest creature I have ever known. We'll miss her terribly. Thank you so much to both of you for helping bring her into our lives.
Brian & Jen Ridout, JULY 2006

We have a secret, you and I
that no one else shall know,
for who but I can see you lie
each night in fire glow?
And who but I can reach my hand
before we go to bed
and feel the living warmth of you
and touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths
and see ahead of me,
your small form racing with the wind
so young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
in every brook I pass
and when I call, no one but I
can see the bending grass.

On July 15th 2006, "Mad Max" met with a terrible accident and lost his life to a train. Rest in peace, Max. Good boy.

Enthusiastic and willing,
you gave so much
in leisure and in competition

my sweetest, most loyal friend
you are in your youth again
with sparkle in your eyes again
may you wade in the water,
climb the rocks and be happy
and free ‘til we meet again

High up in the courts of Heaven today
The little dog angel she will not play
But she sits alone at the gates.
For I know that my master will come, says she,
And when he comes he will call for me.

Here is a little dog
Whose feet ran never faster
Than when they took the path
Leading to her master.

In October 2006, Calendar Girl Sian passed away from complications due to her heart condition. Sweet Sian was surrendered to TDBCR when she was over 12 years old and knew two years of peace and love in Michael's care. Thank you Michael.

Three score and ten are given to man,
But ours is a much briefer span.
So, though I give you all my heart,
The time will come when we must part.
But all around you, you will see,
Creatures that speak to you of me;
A tired horse, a hunted thing,
A sparrow with a broken wing ...
Pity - and help (I know you will)
And somehow, I will be with you still;
And I shall know, although I'm gone,
The love I gave you lingers on.

TDBCR extends its condolences to Shelly and her family on the loss of Chevy. Chevy was surrendered to rescue when she failed to pass the requirements for goose control because of her epilepsy. She had 6 fantastic months before the seizures became too much for her to bear and with a heavy heart Chevy was laid to rest in April 2007. Good dog, Chevy.

If there's a doggy heaven,
I know that's where you are--
About a billion miles away,
Standing on a star.

It's a doggy paradise;
No fences and no leads.
There won't be any do's or don'ts.
You can do just as you please.

There'll be lots of bones to chew
And lots of holes to dig.
There'll be lots of other dogs--
Little ones and big!

You can romp and play with new-found friends
Forever, don't you see?
So, why are you sitting at the gate
Just waiting there for me?

- Zoa Rockenstein

In July 2007, precious little deaf puppy Bo Peep lost her life after suffering a massive seizure. Bo Peep never heard the words "I love you" from her foster-home-cum-adopter Shannon, but we know she felt them a thousand times a day. We are grateful that Peep passed knowing love, and we extend our condolences and gratitude to Shannon of Herding Dog Rescue. RIP little Bo Peep. You've finally found your sheep.

With great sadness we mourn the passing of "Lou," faithful protector, fearless cattle dog and loving partner to Cordy and family. Protecting his people and ranch from intruders in August 2007, Lewis was killed by thieves and cowards. Lou left this earth protecting the people he loved to his last breath. May we all be so lucky to have a dog like Lewis.

Rest In Peace, you're a good dog, Lou.

BAGGAGE (The Meaning of Rescue)

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed,
I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget,
There is so much to carry,
So much to regret.

Hmmm...Yes, there it is, right on top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my perch hides Fear and Shame,
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave,
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I love them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things,
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage,
Will you still want
me?
