HYPERBOWL 2004

HEY, WHERE THE HECK DID ALL THESE DOGS COME FROM??

HYPERBOWL #2 WAS A TERRIFIC SUCCESS FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!!

There were so many dogs racing 'round the field at Savage Farms that we couldn't get an accurate count. By 11am there were 23 dogs. By noon there were 35. And by 2pm there were so many dogs you could hardly see the people that came with them!

As dog after dog after dog came barrelling through the gate, we could hardly keep up ....

There were cries of "Hi!" and "Oh my gosh he's so BIIIIG now!" and lots of warm hugs and tearful reunions. Former foster dogs just kept on coming! It was amazing to see.

"Hi, nice to meet you. Hi, nice to meet you. Hi ..."

Once again we welcomed everyone with a short speech from volunteer Ritchie Mallari, who thanked our guests for coming, and said a big thank you to everyone who had helped TDBCR dogs over the last year. You guys are just the greatest.

We had agility equipment set up for demos and lessons this year too, but as usual people were having such a good time meeting other members of the TDBCR family that we never did get around to the demos. Instead, people and their dogs tried out the equipment themselves (and yet again we were impressed with the fearlessness of the dogs to try something new, and their willingness to work for their beloved handlers!)

Later in the day we did get around to doing a flyball demo, but everyone was so excited that no one got any photos! Oh well, by 2pm the dogs were so hot and tired that they weren't running like the well oiled machines you see in tournaments! Instead, Tweed and Ru left the lanes to go have themselves a dip in Ye Olde Swimming Hole and signaled that their working time was over!

"Last one there is a rotten good for nothing sheep poop eater!!"

The dogs barely slowed down, they were too busy greeting old friends and making new ones. And so were we! But we weren't gobbling down horse poopies as fast as we could find them, which is more than we can say for some of the dogs ... gross guys! But mostly they ran and ran and ran and played and ran and swam and ran and wrestled and ran ....

Some of the "non border collies" parked themselves in the shade of the barbeque and said "hey, turn this thing on and get us some grub, bub!" Tess' dad obliged by firing up the grill and making us all some tasty burgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs.

We stuffed ourselves while the dogs never even missed a beat! They continued their routine of running running and running some more, popping in occasionally for a cookie or a barbeque taste test. Yummy!

"Nummy! Give me another one, lady!"

Everyone gathered round the raffle table shortly afterward to try and win some of the fabulous prizes. Thanks to Dorothy Keenan who sold tickets relentlessly and helped raise almost $500.00 for TDBCR dogs!

My message never really changes ...

Thanks to each and every one of you who came out to Hyperbowl 2004. It was a great event, and it was so wonderful to see you all again. It brought tears to my eyes to see all the dogs out there, many of whom would never had made it if it weren't for the care and love of their adopted families who made room for these wonderful border collies. Thanks to all of you for making Hyperbowl a success, and thanks especially to all of you for adopting a TDBCR dog.
